I installed AfloatX through MacForge on my Mac M1 running Big Sur 11.4.

However no icon appears in the dock. I also tried restarting the computer after installation. But still no icon.

Is this a known limitation?

I guess this is a copy of #25 However that one is closed so I am therefore raising a new issue.

Thanks in advance for any help solving this issue.

Just to clarify, when you right-click the dock icon of a running app, you don’t see the AfloatX menu?

I can see how my original description needs clarification :)

Your clarification is correct. I do not see the AfloatX menu when I right click on an item in the dock.

I have looked at the screenshots from MacForge and Github to confirm what to expect should appear in the menu. And its not there.

I have only tired Space Renamer. Which is able to run, but the name of the spaces does not appear when I press the update button.

If you have any suggestions for other plugins I should try in order to compare if its a bigger problem please let me know. I am happy to investigate further but cannot figure out where to start.

Hi!

This issue looks like a duplicate of the following:

So, let me summarize what I found about this issue:
To use this app, you need MacForge (or maybe not only this app, but it is recommended). However, the stable version currently does not support Apple Silicon chips. But there is a Beta version that does. You can find the download link in their Discord channel (https://github.com/MacEnhance/appcast/raw/master/Beta/MacForge/MacForge.1.2.0B1.zip for now).

To run this app on Apple Silicon chips, you need to follow these steps (https://www.macenhance.com/docs/general/sip-abi.html):

  1. Reboot your Mac with Apple Silicon into Recovery mode.
  2. Disable System Integrity Protection: csrutil disable
  3. Reboot back to macOS.
  4. Add the -arm64e_preview_abi boot arg to your system: sudo nvram boot-args=-arm64e_preview_abi
  5. Disable library validation: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.libraryvalidation.plist DisableLibraryValidation -bool true.

Once you complete these steps, in the System tab in MacForge, all indicators should be green.

After this, you should add the AfloatX plugin in MacForge and reboot.

Congratulations! Now you should see the AfloatX option on some apps in the dock.

But... If you try to use it, the status bar and dock may hang. I don't know why. However, if you toggle AfloatX and _Dockkit in MacForge->Manage Plugins, the status bar and dock should work normally again, and the AfloatX option will still exist, and you can use it.

This is my experience. I haven't been able to run it well, but at least it works a little.
